Barwon Barrage Vertical Slot Fishway 2013

AFPS re-designed and supervised construction of, in conjunction with the Corangamite CMA, a vertical slot fishway on the Barwon River barrage near Geelong, Victoria. The design incorporated a precast concrete culvert vertical slot fishway installed on the northern bank adjacent to the barrage. The design caters for low to moderate flows within the river and has been recorded passing thousands of fish per day. The entrance location of the fishway is adjacent to the flow outlet of the weir and is supplemented by additional attraction flow from a bypass channel that drains from the weir pool to the fishway entrance. The construction was undertaken quickly with minimum disturbance to the surrounding area, taking around 8 days to complete from breaking ground.
